Covered in Dust

“Covered in Dust” was inspired by an old Jewish phrase, “to be covered in the dust of your rabbi.” This phrase refers to disciples who would follow their rabbi so closely that they’d become “covered in the dust” kicked up by his feet.

Jamin loves Jesus and aims to follow Him so closely that he would be “covered in His dust,” so that others see him and know he belongs to Him. He desires to write and share the things he’s been learning as he follows Jesus.

About

This is Covered in Dust, and my name is Jamin. Over the years, I’ve held different titles, but “writer” is one I never expected to discover and embrace.

The Unfinished Story

I grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and friends and family would often describe me as “creative”—I feel like this was a kind way of saying “not an athlete” (jk). It was probably the doodles, the random cardboard creations, or just my wild imagination.

When I met Jesus and found my church community, I was content just being helpful and serving the church in any capacity. One of my Youth Pastors in middle school was also a custodian at the church, and he inspired me. My biggest dream at that time was to be a custodian and serve the church.

Later, I discovered music. Mostly self-taught, I could pick up an instrument and learn it quickly. I loved leading worship in youth group, and for a long time, I thought I’d be a worship leader.

In high school, I fell in love with digital media—first photography, capturing moments and memories, then graphic design, and eventually videography. I thought I had finally discovered my true purpose.

Taking Photos

After high school, I found my passion for teaching. Teaching the Bible to students captured my heart. I’ve been working in a church context since my junior year, and shepherding young followers of Jesus has been the hardest, most challenging, yet most fulfilling thing I’ve done.

Dating

Then I met a girl, her name was Bri. The day we met, I instantly knew I wanted to marry her (true story). We became best friends, and a couple of years later, I asked her to marry me, and she said “yes.”

Now we live in Vancouver, Washington, with our pup, Luke. We’re simply taking life one day at a time, following Jesus, serving His people, and doing it all together. I serve as the Students Pastor, which lets me dive into my passion for reading, studying, and teaching the Bible.

Ways You Can Support:

All of my writings and posts are free to everyone. At this time, I don’t feel called to pursue profit from my writings. For now, this online ministry comes from obedience to publish what God has shared, offering my teachings to those who will listen. Simply subscribing, reading, liking, and sharing is more than enough! I read every comment, and each time my post is shared, it puts a smile on my face.

I love hearing testimonies of how God works. If you have a story of how God has used Covered in Dust to speak into your life, I’d love to hear it!

Another way you can support the work I post is through prayer! Bri and I both work full-time at a church, doing ministry together, and it can be challenging! It’s beautiful but messy work, so please keep us in prayer.

Lastly, if you’d like to support me in another way, I love coffee. In many ways, it’s a love language. I enjoy making it for others, and I love receiving it. If you feel led to buy me a cup of coffee or a bag of beans, that’s the secret to my heart!
